She was prepared for him to shut her down, when Behr shrugged a shoulder and said, “Yeah, sounds good. I think it’s a good idea for you to get out of the house. But,” he said, stepping back into the kitchen and leveling her with a hard look, “only if I tag along.” “What? Why?” Cheyenne questioned, not understanding the need for chaperones. “Because it’s safer that way,” he reasoned. “I have a couple things to take care of first, so it will probably be a day or two. I expect you to wait for me, though, Cheyenne,” he said, his brilliant blue eyes holding her in place. “It’s safer that way.” She was preparing to argue when she realized that she wasn’t altogether sure she wanted to venture out on her own yet anyway. It might be a shock to her system after locking herself away for so long. For laughs, she decided to give him a hard time anyway. “But…” she started. He cut her off with an upraised hand. “No buts,” he said sternly. “It’s not safe and you know it, and besides, that’s what you have two strapping young men like us for.” He clapped a grinning Dehstroy on the back. Cheyenne threw her head back and laughed. “You, young? Ha!” “What?” Behr said, acting offended. “I’m young.” “Prove it,” Cheyenne challenged. “Show me your birth certificate.” When he pursed his lips, she laughed some more. “What’s wrong? Didn’t they make birth certificates yet when you were born? No?” She looked between the men, taking in their sheepish expressions. “Well, then. I’ll leave you two to work on clearing that schedule.” Waving, Cheyenne left the kitchen and headed upstairs to her room to lie down. ↗
It wasn’t long after that when Sally walked out the door and caught Jennifer. She was about to head back to the pond with her two long time girlfriends. Pulling her off to the side, Jennifer motivated them to continue, “Go on, I’ll catch up with you.” She turned to Sally as it appeared that she was quite concerned about something. “What in the heck is going on?” “Why, whatever do you mean child?” “Your friend, Trudy.” Sally revealed in a somewhat radical manner. “She came into my room and started chanting some kind of geeky Greeky Dutch or whatever while parading around like it was halftime at the super-bowl, filling the room up with raspberry smoke.” “Oh that?” Jennifer declared laughingly. “She was just warding off bad karma, that’s all. She uses raspberry for that.” “And what is it about you people with all of this chanting and humming and meditational trance like states? You’re really freaking me out here.” “Don’t be silly. It’s just their thing is all.” Jennifer started to head back to her guests before catching herself and turning around quickly. “Don’t be too alarmed if she pops back in with the Vanilla brand.” “Vanilla?” “Yes, that welcomes in the good karma. First you ward off the bad then you welcome in the good. Talk to you later, or would you like to join us?” “No.” Sally declined. “I’ll take a rain check. ↗

To most people today, the name Snow White evokes visions of dwarfs whistling as they work, and a wide–eyed, fluttery princess singing, "Some day my prince will come." (A friend of mine claims this song is responsible for the problems of a whole generation of American women.) Yet the Snow White theme is one of the darkest and strangest to be found in the fairy tale canon — a chilling tale of murderous rivalry, adolescent sexual ripening, poisoned gifts, blood on snow, witchcraft, and ritual cannibalism. . .in short, not a tale originally intended for children's tender ears. Disney's well–known film version of the story, released in 1937, was ostensibly based on the German tale popularized by the Brothers Grimm. Originally titled "Snow–drop" and published in Kinder–und Hausmarchen in 1812, the Grimms' "Snow White" is a darker, chillier story than the musical Disney cartoon, yet it too had been cleaned up for publication, edited to emphasize the good Protestant values held by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. (...) Variants of Snow White were popular around the world long before the Grimms claimed it for Germany, but their version of the story (along with Walt Disney's) is the one that most people know today. Elements from the story can be traced back to the oldest oral tales of antiquity, but the earliest known written version was published in Italy in 1634. ↗
I don’t know who those other people are and what they did to you, but I’m not one of them,” I whispered, on the verge of tears. (Molly) “You are. You just don’t know yet.” (Victor) ↗

I don't know how it happened. Through the din of the crowd, I heard this tiny scream. As small and distant as it was, it was like thunder in my head.' He looked up at me. Some of the blood had drained from his face making the dark circles under his eyes more pronounced. 'I knew it was you. I don't know how or why, but I knew it was you. ↗
It was a Friday night, she was at a club, and a good-looking man was currently giving her the I-want-to-take-you-home-and-I-hope-I-last-longer-than-five-minutes look… and she was thinking about pie, a young adult book, and feeding her cat. She was so turning into the cat lady at twenty-seven. Sweet. ↗
