In an unprecedented move Aoun signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Hezbollah on 6 February 2006. The new Government was formed on 13 June 2011 with 6 ministers for the Free Patriotic Movement up from 3 in the last government and a total of 11 ministers for Aoun's C&R bloc.
Aoun is a Member of Parliament. General Aoun fled to the French embassy and was later allowed to travel to France. He visited Syria in 2009.
