With respect to Barack Obama, let's face it; Barack Obama is an iconic figure in the African-American community. We respect that. We understand that. African-Americans are going to vote for the first black president, especially when he happens to share the liberal politics on economic issues that many in that community hold.

In the Democratic primary he defeated political newcomer Eddison Walters 90%–9%. On May 29 2012 Artur Davis confirmed that he was changing his voter registration from Alabama to Virginia and that he would run as a Republican were he to seek political office in the future.

In May 2012 he confirmed that he was considering running for Congress as a Republican. He was also a candidate for governor of Alabama in the 2010 Democratic Gubernatorial Primary.
