I always sang when I was little and my father, who was a great influence on me, also had a wonderful voice. He and my mother really encouraged me to sing and play the piano. They were always very supportive.

The album also featured Collins' composition "My Father" and one of the first covers of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire". She is an alumna of MacMurray College Jacksonville Illinois. Collins was also instrumental in bringing little-known musicians to a wider public.
