When I introduced a black soldier, Lt. Flap, in 1971, the Stars and Stripes banned the strip. They were having racial problems and thought it would increase the tensions.

He has signed Addison to some of his strips. Addison Morton Walker (born September 3 1923) popularly known as Mort Walker is an American comic artist best known for creating the newspaper comic strips Beetle Bailey in 1950 and Hi and Lois in 1954.
