At present, I am mainly observing the physical motion of mountains, water, trees and flowers. One is everywhere reminded of similar movements in the human body, of similar impulses of joy and suffering in plants.

During the war Schiele's paintings became larger and more detailed when he had the time to produce them. The twenty-one days he had already spent in custody were taken into account and he was sentenced to only three days' imprisonment. Within this year Schiele also painted and drew many children.
