I have come to the conclusion - and I don't know why it took me so long, but nevertheless, I'm here now - that a lot of people tell me they don't get enough guitar on my albums. So I decided to do an album where the guitar would be the singer, playing the melody.

That same year Santana formed an all-instrumental group featuring jazz legend Wayne Shorter on tenor and soprano saxophone. King and John Lee Hooker. In 1985 Bill Graham had to once again pull strings for Santana to convince principal Live Aid concert organizer Bob Geldof to allow the band to appear at the festival.

Santana continued to work in these forms over the following decades. He became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band Santana which pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American music. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards.
