Now almost every artist outside of New York is connected with some school or some museum school, and even in New York the majority are. That's an interesting fact when you take the idea of making money, making a living selling paintings. Only a dozen or two painters do that.

The Josef Albers Museum Quadrat in Bottrop (Germany) shows Rheinhardts Last Paintings and earlier works along with works from Josef Albers (Hommage to the Square and other) from 26 September 2010 to 09 January 2011. Reinhardt also illustrated the highly influential and controversial pamphlet Races of Mankind (1943) originally intended for distribution to the U. S.

Most famous for his "black" or "ultimate" paintings he claimed to be painting the "last paintings" that anyone can paint. He was also a founding member of the Artist's Club. He wrote and lectured extensively on art and was a major influence on conceptual minimal art and monochrome painting.
