What we're really trying to do is level out the health care system. It has gotten so one-sided as more and more people have been put into managed care; in fact, about 70 percent of the patients in the country.

In December 2006 he underwent chemotherapy for cancer which had spread to his liver. He became the first Republican to represent his northeastern Georgia district since Reconstruction. In 1968 he was transferred to the Medical Company (Company B-Med) of the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam and served a combat tour at Quin Yon An Khe and LZ English at Bong Son.
