You would have thought that after 9/11 the president would have finished the job in Afghanistan, and kept the focus on capturing Bin Laden and his al-Qaeda deputies, but he and his team gave top priority to their original plan to invade Iraq.

Political career


Florida legislature
In 1972 Nelson was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. Harris failed to secure the endorsement of Jeb Bush who publicly stated that Bill Nelson could not win; the U. 2%.

In January 1986 Nelson became the second sitting member of the United States Congress to fly in space. In the Senate he is generally considered a social moderate and economic liberal. A member of the Democratic Party Nelson served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1972 to 1979 in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1991 and as Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner of Florida from 1995 to 2000.
