I did feel Dr. Cox, the character that I was auditioning for, was too similar to the head of the hospital. He was too arrogant and mean. I approached him kind of like I had a miniature Max sitting on my shoulder. I pictured Max saying, "This guy has got to give love every once in a while. He has to!" I knew there had to be tiny little windows of redemption.

In 2007 he had a role as Chuck in the film Are We Done Yet?. He has also done commercials for the Champions Tour a professional golf tour for men over the age of 50. McGinley had been cast in his first film role in Alan Alda's Sweet Liberty earlier in 1986.

Apart from acting McGinley is also an author and a spokesperson for the National Down Syndrome Society. He has also written and produced for television and film. John Christopher McGinley (born August 3 1959) is an American actor.
