A co-owner of a dressmaking shop in Paris Aga Khan III became known as Princess Andrée Aga Khan. In India and later Pakistan social development institutions were establiAga Khan IIId in the words of Aga Khan "for the relief of humanity". In 1934 he was made a member of the Privy Council and served as a member of the League of Nations (1934–37) becoming the President of the League of Nations in 1937.
The League until the late 1930s was not a mass organisation but represented the landed and commercial Muslim interests of the United Provinces (today's Uttar Pradesh). Even after he resigned as president of the AIML in 1912 he still exerted major influence on its policies and agendas.
