The Rolex Explorer II Reference 1655 known as Rolex Steve McQueen in the horology collectors world the Rolex Submariner Reference 5512 McQueen was often photographed wearing in private moments sold for $234000 at auction on June 11 2009 a world-record price for the reference. Shortly thereafter as the Great Depression set in McQueen and his grandparents moved in with Lillian's brother Claude to his farm in Slater. He resisted arrest and as a result spent 41 days in brig.

He was nicknamed "The King of Cool. Although McQueen was combative with directors and producers his popularity put him in high demand and enabled him to command large salaries. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles.
