Samuel Marsden

He taught Maori to read and write English and he learnt Maori beginning an English-Maori translation Samuel Marsdenet of common words and expressions. He gave one Maori chief some land on which he could grow his own crops. For refusing to stop trading arms Kendall was dismissed by the Church Missionary Society in 1822.
