Samuel Dale "Sam" Brownback (born September 12 1956) is an American politician who is the 46th and current Governor of Kansas. A member of the Republican Party he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1996 representing Kansas's 2nd congressional district and then was elected to the United States Senate serving Kansas from 1996 to 2011. He ran for president in 2008 but withdrew before the primaries began and endorsed the eventual Republican nominee John McCain.
